Three must have winter jackets and coats
Practicality plays a starring role in winter fashion. But rather than being dowdy and purely functional, this season fashion meets appropriateness as winter jackets and coats come over all stylish and trendy but still manage to keep out the winter chills.
There are numerous styles to choose from, so we have narrowed it down to just three key designs.
The aviator/leather jacket
This classic style seems to never go out of fashion and although not the most practical choice when the temperature drops below zero, the aviator or leather bomber is perfect to 'rock up' party dresses. Add a pair of skinnies, over-sized t-shirt, some shoe boots and a scarf and you are good to go.
To tie into the latest trends however, you will need to work in some extra detailing. For example, look for shearling, zips and tassels. Keep the colour warm; so go for dark reds or light browns. The aviator jacket and leather jacket are both available from House of Fraser in a variety of colours and styles.
Duffle coat
If it was good enough for Paddington Bear, it must be good enough for the rest of us. The duffle coat is such a versatile style; it can be dressed up or down and comes in a variety of colours and with myriad feature details. Look for the toggle fastenings and preferably a hood, but other than that you are free to roam. Duffles are great ways of injecting colour into your outfit.
If you want a more feminine shape look for belted versions and for something more grown up pick plaid, tweed or tartan. These coats are great at keeping you warm as they are made from rich wool, so you can team them with a skirt or a pair of shorts even in December.
Faux fur
Whether you want to go all out in shoulder to hip fur, or keep it low-key with a fur trim, injecting some fur into your outfit is a sure fire way of staying on trend this season. Keep the rest of the styling simple if you do decide to go all out though. However, if you want to go for a more sophisticated look, a swing coat with faux-fur collar looks perfect paired with animal print shoe boots.
